A BRIDE'S GUIDE TO VEIL EDGES AND TRIMS

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT VEIL EDGE FINISH

Explore this guide to veil edgings and trims – including lace, satin, picot and cut edge veils. Discover which finish suits your bridal style best.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT VEIL EDGE FINISH

When designing your bespoke veil, one of the finishing touches to consider is the edge. At Rebecca Anne Designs, I offer four veil edging options, each chosen for elegance, quality and versatility.

A cut edge offers a clean, seamless finish. A picot edge (also known as a pencil edge) adds the lightest touch of definition. Satin binding adds a smooth, flowing trim. Lace edging introduces texture and detail, thoughtfully balanced with embroidery.

CUT EDGE WEDDING VEILS

Understated and effortlessly elegant.
Also known as a raw or plain edge, a cut edge veil is softly hand-trimmed with no visible finish. This minimalist style is a beautiful choice for brides who want their veil to blend seamlessly into their dress, enhancing the silhouette without distraction.
It’s a versatile option that in my opinion pairs with every gown shape and embellishment, making it ideal for understated or modern bridal looks.

PICOT OR PENCIL EDGE VEILS

A refined detail with delicate structure
A picot edge, also known as a pencil edge, adds a fine, sewn finish along the edge of the veil. This tiny hemline offers just a hint of definition, creating soft structure while keeping the look beautifully light.
Favoured by many of my brides, this subtle trim is a timeless choice that enhances movement without overpowering the gown beneath.

SATIN RIBBON EDGE VEILS

A touch of satin for added sophistication
This edge style features a 9mm or 15mm double-folded satin bias binding, stitched along the edge for a smooth, flowing finish. Unlike standard ribbon, the satin is cut on the bias, allowing it to curve and drape gracefully along the veil’s shape.
Perfect for brides who adore subtle luxury, this edging adds just the right amount of definition, ideal for gowns with satin or structured elements.

LACE EDGE WEDDING VEILS

A modern take on a romantic classic

Lace edging brings softness, texture and detail to the edge of a veil, offering a beautiful alternative to plain finishes. At Rebecca Anne Designs, lace is used with intention: selected to complement your dress and paired carefully with embroidery so the result feels considered and personalised.

This option is ideal for brides drawn to romance but wanting a modern balance. Lace can frame the veil gently, echo dress detailing, or be combined with bespoke embroidery for a look that feels layered, thoughtful and entirely your own.
