Cate Campbell’s Wedding Veil by Rebecca Anne Designs

Cate Campbell’s wedding veil was bespoke made at Rebecca Anne Designs in Devon, using a full three-metre width of tulle for drama and a length extending beyond her dress train. It was chosen through my Australia stockist Gemma Leakey, who also designed and made her wedding dress.

The Australian Olympian wore the veil for her wedding to Adam Kerr at Palm Creek Estate in Queensland. It was a pleasure to play a part in her bridal look and to see it captured in these photographs by Sam Wyper.

Cate Campbell’s wedding veil: plain tulle with dramatic proportions

For Cate’s veil, we chose generous proportions and a simple, unembellished finish. The width gives the tulle room to open into soft folds, while its sheerness allows the dress beneath to remain visible.

The length was considered alongside the gown, ensuring the veil continued beyond the dress train in a flowing sweep of tulle.

Complementing Cate’s Gemma Leakey wedding dress

I love how the veil falls around the structured bodice of Cate’s gown and echoes the softness of the skirt. In the sunlit portraits, the light catches the tulle beautifully, revealing its delicate texture.

Although embroidery is at the heart of much of my work, a plain veil deserves the same care and consideration. Its character comes through the fabric, the cut and the way it falls with the dress. For Cate’s veil, the drama came from the generous width and flowing length, with a plain finish that complemented her gown.

Working through Gemma meant Cate’s veil could be made to suit the proportions of her bridal look. Seeing it worn, from the ceremony to these sunlit portraits, has been a joy. My warmest congratulations to Cate and Adam.
